Description: This course is designed to promote greater competence, confidence and capability in clinical and moral decision making by health care professionals who work with clients who have dementia, and their families across a range of settings (community, acute care, and residential). Such care extends from initial diagnosis to end of life, as dementia is a life limiting condition. Care required for the person with dementia is complex and requires learners to engage in the application of research about moral, ethical and legal aspects of clinical practice. Because dementia may affect individuals from all groups in the community, this course will reflect an understanding of cultural safety for clients with dementia, and their families, from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds.
